Klutch Stanaway

Just as NASA has made the Phoenix Mars Lander, Klutch Stanaway makes ad hoc abstractions to explore his universe. Day-to-day experiences are paralleled with space exploration to create works-on-paper, DIY kits, and plywood sculptures. "Friends" uses the language of elementary school t-shirts to talk about gastronomical differences and harmony. Stanaway lives in Los Angeles and is on the sculpture faculty at Fullerton College. In 2008, Stanaway had solo shows at Spacecraft Gallery in San Diego and at Haus Gallery in Pasadena, which was reviewed in Art Scene and the LA Times. His work was part of the group show "Sound & Motion" at SolwayJones Gallery in 2007, which was reviewed in Artweek, LA Weekly, and was a critics' pick on ArtForum.com. SolwayJones represented Stanaway's faux-plywood sculpture and works on paper at Art Miami in 2007. He has participated in solo and group shows throughout the US, as well as Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy.
